What the hosts said

LThis is Culture Morning, and the overnight drop is a four hundred fifty dollar Godzilla.
CFour hundred fifty dollars for a LEGO set? Now I'm awake.
LDiscussingFilm posted the first official look on X. It's real, and it's a monster.
CDefine monster.
LFive thousand three hundred sixty-three pieces. More than two feet tall.
CSo it's a plastic skyscraper with a grudge.
LIt's the Monsterverse Godzilla. Articulated head, arms, tail, even fingers.
CMy bank account just flinched.
LIGN, also on X, posted the same set with the line, no city or wallet is safe.
CThey're not wrong. That's a console and three games.
LBut this isn't just a product. It started as a LEGO Ideas submission by a fan designer, Matthew Esposito.
COkay, that part I like. A fan got his Godzilla produced.
LTen thousand supporters got it made. Esposito calls it a real passion project.
CThe head was the biggest challenge, according to him. Getting that snarl in bricks isn't easy.
LSo you admit it's impressive.
CI'm not saying it isn't impressive. I'm saying it's rent for a lot of people.
LPeople spend that on sneakers, prints, concert tickets. This is collectible art.
CSneakers go on feet. Godzilla goes on a shelf to terrify the delivery guy.
LExactly. He guards the apartment.
LIt's a centerpiece. You don't put a console on display.
CI would if it cost four hundred fifty dollars.
LThat's not the same and you know it.
CIt's a five thousand piece art project. I'll give you that.
CThe best reply comes from a user named dub: four hundred fifty dollars for a plastic lizard, that's ninety loaves of bread and I know which one I'm hugging.
LThe bread math is the best part.
CCarb math checks out. Lizard math is personal.
LHere's why I'd pay it: five thousand parts of engineering, including an optional atomic breath piece.
CSo I pay four hundred fifty dollars to mount a glowing belch? Sold.
LOh, come on. You can't call it a toy and then say it costs rent.
CI can do both. It's a very expensive toy.
LGamesRadar called the price equally monstrous, but they praised the scale and poseability.
CPraising the poseability while calling it monstrous is exactly what a reviewer should do.
LThey're not wrong, but I still want it.
COf course you do.
LThe reveal was timed to Godzilla Day and the release of Godzilla Minus Zero. It launches November twenty-seventh.
CSmart marketing. Drop a giant lizard on a holiday.
LIt's not just a set. It's an event.
CAn event with a four hundred fifty dollar cover charge.
LAnd you'll still be looking at the photos when it drops.
CI'll look. I won't touch.
LThat's the official LEGO Godzilla. Over five thousand pieces, launching November twenty-seventh.
CAnd the bread guy? He's my hero.
LHe's hugging ninety loaves tonight.
CLater this hour, a Spotify chart claim that needs checking.
LAnd maybe a Christmas song that will not go away.
