What the hosts said

MYou're on Tech Tonight, and the new Tesla Roadster is getting absolutely dragged online. We'll get to that in a minute.
CDragged is putting it politely. One reviewer over on Bluesky said the thing is, and I quote, 'ass.'
MStrong critical vocabulary. But first, a genuinely interesting question that's blowing up on X.
CShalzzzz posted a poll asking which ecosystem gives the best user experience: Apple, Samsung, or Google.
MAnd look, I know these polls are engagement bait. But it got me thinking about the actual state of ecosystems in 2026.
CRight, because five years ago the answer was obvious. Apple had the seamless thing locked down. Your phone talked to your watch talked to your laptop.
MAnd now? Samsung has the S Pen, the Galaxy Book laptops are actually good now, and the Buds are genuinely competitive with AirPods.
CBut the tablet situation is still a mess. The Galaxy Tab is fine, but Android tablets still don't have the app ecosystem that iPads do.
MThat's fair. And Google's ecosystem is the wildcard. The Pixel phones are excellent, but Chromebooks are a mixed bag for actual work.
CHere's my take: Apple still wins on polish, but the gap is way smaller than it used to be. Samsung wins on features per dollar.
MAnd Google wins on software intelligence. The Pixel's AI features are genuinely ahead of everyone else right now.
CSpeaking of hardware people are actually buying — Anker just posted about their power banks and I have to say, the specs are impressive.
MThe Anker 737 has 24,000 milliamp hours with 140 watts of output. That's enough to charge a MacBook at full speed.
CAnd the Prime model pushes 250 watts. That's wild for something you can fit in a backpack.
MThe price in that post is in naira, so about 190,000. That's roughly 120 dollars US. Not bad for that much capacity.
CAlright, now to the story everyone's actually talking about. Tesla finally showed off the new Roadster and the internet is not being kind.
ME.W. Niedermeyer over on Bluesky wrote: 'Tesla wants to put a reverse OceanGate sub disaster next to a select group of the richest idiots alive.'
CThat's harsh. And honestly, the design criticism is landing harder than I expected.
MIan Boudreau, also on Bluesky, posted three separate times just to say the thing looks bad. He called it 'ass,' then said 'look at this thing,' then linked Marques Brownlee's video and said it's never coming out.
CThree posts from one guy about how much he hates a car. That's commitment.
MBut here's the thing — he's not wrong about the delays. This car was announced in 2017. Nine years ago.
CNine years. Ford went from zero to a Mustang Mach-E in four. Porsche built an entire EV platform in less time.
MAnd the design? I looked at the photos. It looks like a 2012 concept car that forgot to evolve.
COh, come on. It's a sports car. Sports car design doesn't change that fast. The 911 has looked basically the same for sixty years.
MThe 911 looks timeless. This thing looks like a knockoff of a Grand Theft Auto car that Rockstar didn't want to license.
CThat's a stretch. And you know what? None of this matters if the performance numbers are real. The claimed figures are zero to sixty in under two seconds, and a 250 mile per hour top speed.
MIf it's real. If it ships. Those are big ifs after nine years of vaporware.
CTesla has shipped every vehicle they've announced, eventually. The Semi took forever, the Cybertruck took forever, but they shipped.
MThe Roadster was announced before the Semi. The Semi is on roads. Where's the Roadster?
COkay, fair. The timeline has been embarrassing. But when it does come out, nobody's going to care about the internet's aesthetic hot takes.
MYou don't think design matters for a car like this? Buyers at that level care deeply about how it looks.
CPerformance buyers care about numbers. And Tesla owns the numbers conversation.
MBut they used to own the design conversation too. The original Model S looked like nothing else on the road. This looks like a generic supercar from a mobile game.
CWe are going to have to agree to disagree on this one.
MWe'll see if it ever actually ships. Brownlee's video is worth watching if you want to judge the design yourself.
CAnd coming up later, a story about a phone form factor that one guy on X thinks everyone is crazy for not making. It's actually an interesting idea.
MTech Tonight, back after this.
